7. Porsche 914 2.0
The Porsche that was almost not a Porsche at all. The 2 liter 914 Porsche was originally designed by Porsche for none other that Volkswagen. These little roadsters were slated for VW’s line up but were ultimately sold under the Porsche name. They are overlooked when compared to the heritage their big brother the 911 but the two aren’t really so different under the hood. The 914 shared many of its components with the 911 like its steering rack, front suspension, transmission, and even brakes. Its rear suspension was slight different due to the location of the 914’s engine which was mounted directly behind the driver and passenger seats. This lead to the Porsche 914 underdog being a better performing and better handling sports car than the more prestigious 911. The 914 even out sold the 911 by 118,000 units! This two brand venture is definitely on the rise again and can be yours for anywhere between $8,000 to $14,000 dollars. Don’t expect that price to stay around much longer. A few 914’s were sold at Barrett Jackson this year for close to $30,000.
