Motorcycle Rider Dies After T-Boning Car: Helmet Camera Caught It All
A 38 year old British motorcycle rider lost his life in a ghastly accident where speed and a driver’s lack of attention proved fatal. The rider was David Holmes, a seasoned and well versed rider, who loved life and speed. He was traveling down England’s A47 motorway just outside of Leicester toward Norwich on a ride that he had made many times before but it was to be his last. His last seconds of life were caught on camera.
David being the speed freak he was didn’t like to be held up by slower motorists in his path. The GoPro attached to his helmet captured his high speed hijinks as we passed several cars between the two lanes of traffic. He was traveling close to 100 miles an hour as he weaved between the cars. As he quickly approached the intersection of Wood’s Lane and Berry’s Lane a Renault and its driver began turning right in front of David Holmes, who was still traveling at 100 miles an hour.
In the video you can hear David yell out “NO!” as he realizes that he has no chance of avoiding the accident. Holmes t-boned the turning Renault in the front fender which sent him flying through the air like a rag doll. David landed with a thud in the nearby grass and lay as a motionless heap. Passing motorist who witnessed the accident rushed to his aid but sadly David had been killed by the impact.
Local law enforcement officers reviewed the footage on David’s helmet mounted camera and statements from witnesses. They also talked to the driver of the Renault who didn’t remember seeing David or the vehicle directly behind the motorcyclist. After a short investigation the Renault’s owner was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter do their lack of attention and the unfortunate death of David Holmes.
