10 Rare American Muscle Cars You’ll Probably Never See On The Streets
9. 1967 Plymouth R023 GTX
Today’s American factory race cars can trace their roots back to giants like R023 GTX by Plymouth. The GTX was in direct competition with the more popular Barracudas and Roadrunners during their reign on American streets in the late 60s and early 70s. Plymouth decided to produce a race ready version of the GTX that would be stripped of many of it creature comforts like the radio, heater, and carpet. This made the GTX 500 pounds lighter than usual. It was outfitted with the same 426 Hemi engine found in the Superbird. This made launches from 0 to 60 happen in less than five seconds! That’s not bad at all for a lead sled. Plymouth once again decided that less is more and only produced 55 of the R023 GTX. It is believed that less than half are still around today.
