10 Rare American Muscle Cars You’ll Probably Never See On The Streets
6. 1970 Plymouth Superbird
You either hate or love this spinoff of Plymouth’s Roadrunner platform. The enormous fin spoiler attached to the rear quarters panel is enough to set this muscle machine apart from others even today. The Superbird and its spoiler were Plymouth’s response to Dodged’s Daytona Charger which competed in NASCAR with them. The Superbird was powered by a massive 426 Hemi V8. It was quite successful on the track against its competitors until NASCAR changed the rules for the 1971 season. The Superbird’s aero features would allow the vehicle to have a 305 cubic inch motor with the new rules. This would have left the Superbird in the rearview mirror so Plymouth abandoned the car altogether. This strange aerodynamic creation was only produced in 1970 with 135 model rolling off the assembly line.
