No matter the reason why a vehicle is purchased customers trust in designers and manufacturers to supply them with a safe vehicle that will protect them in case of an accident. Unfortunately that’s not always the case and with 10 million vehicle accidents happening each year around the world the body count is piling up. Out of those 10 million accidents 1.5 million people have lost their lives. The accident to death ratio does fluctuate from year to year and automakers seem to be doing little about it. Vehicles are sold with less than standard crash ratings or with faulty equipment. This ultimately leads to accidents and loss of life.
The blame can’t just be placed on the automakers as some of the accidents today are caused by inexperienced or irresponsible drivers. Combine faulty equipment with a young driver and you get yourself one dangerous situation. Most of the vehicles driven by these young drivers are economy cars that are built to save the manufacturer and the customer money. Doesn’t sound like the best combination does it?
There are 10 vehicles that are considered to be the deadliest on the roadways of the United States. These findings are based on the number of accidents sold versus the number of people that died in those accidents. If you drive one of the vehicles on this list it might be time to think of changing as soon as you can before it’s too late.
10. Dodge Nitro
This box on wheels always looked like it would be pretty safe but the 2 wheel drive Dodge Nitro has earned itself a place on our list. 51 people out of 1 million crashes involving a Nitro lost their lives. There isn’t anything really wrong with the Nitro and it did rank well in crash ratings. Many organizations claim that the less than adequate size of the driver’s area is what leads to the most deaths and injuries.

]]>CONCORD, N.C. — It’s official: one of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s favorite cars will make its return this weekend.
“Amelia” is back.
In 2015, Amelia earned three wins — a Duel at Daytona International Speedway, the May race at Talladega Superspeedway and the July race at Daytona – in addition to a third-place finish in the Daytona 500 and a second-place result in the second Talladega race.
Earnhardt’s average finish of 1.75 while driving Amelia in the four superspeedway points races last season led all competitors.
So it was no surprise that the chassis would make its return this season for the Daytona 500 this season. It looked like another successful run was in the works, but as Earnhardt looked to jump back into the top five with 30 laps remaining, the No. 88 Chevy SS was caught up in an incident that sent him to a 36th-place finish.

Rossi managed to make a big comeback to the second position and scoring 20 important points after troubled practice and qualifying sessions and being pushed to the seventh spot at the opening lap. Nevertheless, Lorenzo had gone far ahead and dominated the race with a significant lead for the remainder of the race. Marc Marquez had a poor start right from the beginning, but managed get aggressive in the following laps and battled for the second spot with Rossi closing in on Ducati rider Dovizioso.
However, both Dovizioso and Marquez fell almost in synchronized fashion at the Chemin aux Boeufs chicane. Marquez did manage to get going again and eventually completed the race in 13th place, salvaging a few points. That said, the Spaniard ended up losing his title lead to Lorenzo with the latter scoring more points.
]]>The 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship arrives at NJMP this week following two rounds of scintillating races at Circuit of The Americas and Road Atlanta and a weekend off to catch its breath. So what have we learned so far in the early days of the new season?
For one, there’s a newcomer to the series who is a force to be reckoned with and his name is Toni Elias. Secondly, his Yoshimura Suzuki team seems to have a bit of swagger after winning three of the first four races and holding down first and second in the championship with Roger Hayden leading Elias by a single point heading into NJMP. The third thing we’ve learned is that Hayes’ teammate Cameron Beaubier seems to be back, the defending MotoAmerica Superbike Champion winning race two at Road Atlanta to end what was a miserable run of bad luck to open his 2016 campaign. Even though he got that first win of the season, the road back to the top of the championship will take a bit longer as he’s currently 38 points behind Hayden and seventh in the title chase entering round three.
And then we come to Hayes – third in the title chase and 24 points behind Hayden after finishing third twice at COTA and second once at Road Atlanta. The other race at Road Atlanta was one that Hayes is trying to forget. While racing for the lead with Beaubier, Hayes made a mistake and ran into the back of his teammate, causing both to crash out of the race and handing first and second to Yoshimura Suzuki teammates Elias and Hayden. So Hayes is winless and happy to be heading to a place where his fortunes have been plentiful.
]]>From the get-go, Hennessey wants it to be known this has nothing to do with the company’s performance shop. The Hennessey development center and workshop adjacent to the race track are not offered for sale, and are completely independent from Lonestar Motorsports park.
“This is purely a smart real-estate move,” John Hennessey, founder and head-honcho at Hennessey Performance, said. “If it sells for what we ask, great. If no one buys it, we might end up just keeping it.”
The 55-acre facility features an IHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile dragstrip, with enclosed and air-conditioned concession stands, spectator grand stands with seating for 800, staging lanes, a control tower, lights, timing equipment, among other things. An additional 70 acres are available for “additional cost,” and the ad claims the property could be expanded into a road course.
]]>KAHNE ‘BUILDING’ ON TOP-FIVE
Early in Sunday’s race at Richmond, Kasey Kahne was concerned.
Riding high on the track, his No. 5 Mountain Dew Pitch Black Chevrolet SS made contact with the wall.
“I just missed a little bit and slid, hit the wall,” he explained. “I thought I had wrecked my car pretty good, but it rubbed it. It was still really sharp the next corner and the corner after that. I knew we were OK at that point.”
From there, he pushed toward the top five, finding it on Lap 79, and stayed at or near it for the remainder of the race.
A week after finding the top five with less than 50 laps remaining at Bristol but ultimately finishing 17th, Kahne was proud to have “finished it off” Sunday.
“We just stayed after it all day,” he said. “We had a little bit of struggles early in the run, the first 10 laps, then at the end of the race we didn’t have that struggle at all. I thought that was the best we’ve taken off all day on a 40-lap kind of dash there at the end. We needed that.”
He credited the success to the No. 5 team, from crew chief Keith Rodden’s in-race tuning to the pit crew’s speedy stops throughout the event.
“We had a strong car,” he said. “The adjustments were great. The pit stops on pit road, I was either even or gaining spots all race long. My pit team is unreal right now, for sure.”
The fourth-place finish was his best of the season, and it came two weeks after a top-10 at Texas and a week after a strong run at Bristol, even if the result didn’t show it.
“It’s nice to have three solid weekends,” he said, “and we’ll keep building from here.”

Competition was always fierce in the 1960’s with brands always trying to out do one another. Often different divisions of major companies would go to battle with another. It was truly a dog eat dog world where only the fast survived. In the 60’s horsepower wasn’t everything but how fast you could go was one of the most important things to drivers during the time period. These times were put to the test at many stop signs and drag strips across the United States.
We cracked open the record books and put together a list of the 10 fastest cars of the ground shaking 1960’s based on 0 to 60 times. There was no truer test in those times to determine just how fast a car actually was.
10. 1966 Plymouth Satellite – 5.3 Seconds
The Chrysler corporation was definitely one of the heavy hitters of the 1960s. The Plymouth Satellite first debuted in 1965 and captured a large following but the 1966 Hemi version separated the boys from the men. The Hemi power plant pumped out a bone breaking 425 horses and 490 pounds of torque. The second and third generations produced similar power but could never keep up with 66’s.

No matter what the cause these vehicles do exist in our world on our road, and water, ways. We all know just how ugly the Pontiac Aztec is so we decided to look up 10 Of The Ugliest Cars In Existence. The cars on this list feature some of the worst engineering by auto designers at the factory and people in their garages at home. They saw beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To that I say “These people must be blind then.”
10. ComicCon Conversion
I know that customizing vans was a big thing in the 1970s and 1980s but it seems that it has picked up favoritism in Japan these days. This Toyota people mover isn’t taking kids to soccer practice anymore. Instead now it sports the ugliest body modifications known to man and a mural that is sure to get the driver on a sex offender list somewhere. Pikachu doesn’t choose you van man!

10. Porsche 911 GT2 RS – 7:18.00
In 2010 this 612 horsepower Porsche monster claimed the 10th fastest lap around the famed race track. The 911 GT2 RS was designed as a top secret project by Porsche to demolish the Nissan GT-R’s time of 7 minutes and 24 seconds. The RS was capable of a 0 to 60 time of 2.8 seconds that was made possible by its twin turbocharged flat six engine. The top secret 911 was also put on diet and over 300 pounds were pulled from its innards. When the dust settled in 2010 the 911 GT2 RS had completed the course in 7 minutes and 18 seconds flat, knocking the GT-R off its throne…at least for a bit anyways.
